Origin and meaning of Cristian
Cristian continues the Latin christianus, “follower of Christ”, the epithet first given to the disciples at Antioch. In Romania it took hold in the second half of the twentieth century and became one of the most common boys' names, with the pet form Cristi and compounds such as Cristian-Andrei or Cristian-Ioan. Tellingly, registrations peak in the weeks around Christmas, the feast the name points back to.
