Origin and meaning of Marco
Marco comes from the Latin Marcus, probably 'dedicated to Mars', the god of war. A very ancient Roman name, it was borne by Saint Mark the Evangelist, patron of Venice, and by the philosopher-emperor Marcus Aurelius. Among the most common in Italy, its most famous traveller is the Venetian Marco Polo. Mark, Marc and Marcos make it a Western classic.
