Origin and meaning of Zayd
Zayd (زيد) comes from the root z-y-d, 'to increase, to grow', denoting abundance and growth: a wish for prosperity and flourishing for the child. It is one of the oldest and most recurring Arabic names, borne by Zayd ibn Harithah, the adopted son of the Prophet Muhammad and the only companion mentioned by name in the Quran, as well as by numerous caliphs and jurists of the early Islamic era. Short, solid and rich in history, it remains widespread across the Arab world, from the Arabian Peninsula to the Levant.
