Origin and meaning of Zahra
Zahra comes from the Arabic Zahrāʾ (زهراء), 'shining, radiant, blossoming', and also echoes zahra, 'flower'. The epithet az-Zahrāʾ, 'the Radiant', is traditionally linked to Fatima, daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, which adds to the name's prestige. It is extremely common across the Muslim world, from the Maghreb to Iran, and present in Europe too; variants such as Zohra and Zahrah accompany it, always tied to the bright, floral image at its origin.
