Yahya (يحيى) is the Quranic Arabic form of the name of John the Baptist, coming from the root h-y-y, 'to live': it means 'he will live', a name that, according to the Quranic account, was chosen directly by God and never borne by anyone before, as a special sign for Zachariah's long-awaited son.
