The name is inseparable from Saint Valentine, patron of lovers celebrated worldwide on 14 February. In Italy it is a beloved, lively name, also borne by the motorcycling champion Valentino Rossi. Widespread too in Spanish-speaking areas, it has popular variants such as the French and German Valentin and the Spanish Valentín.
