Origin and meaning of Tullio

Tullio derives from the Latin Tullius, name of the gens Tullia, an illustrious Roman family to which the king Servius Tullius and, above all, Marcus Tullius Cicero belonged: hence the link with eloquence. The name thus carries an echo of nobility and the art of oratory. In Italy it is a traditional name, fairly rare today, prized for its sober classicism; it is also known in Spanish-speaking areas as Tulio. It keeps a learned, ancient tone, elegant in its restraint.
