Origin and meaning of Teofilo
Teofilo derives from the Greek Theóphilos, from theós ('God') and philos ('friend, beloved'): it means 'friend of God' or 'beloved of God'. It has an evangelical flavour, since the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles are addressed to a Theophilus. In Italy it is rare, with a learned, ancient tone; it thrives more in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world as Teófilo. The variants Theophilus and the French Théophile keep its classical elegance.
