Origin and meaning of Serafina

Serafina is the feminine form of Serafino and traces back to the Hebrew seraphim, the burning angels described by the prophet Isaiah as fiery beings closest to God. The name therefore evokes spiritual warmth, light and devotion. Common in Italy, especially across the southern regions and Catholic tradition, it is also cherished in Spanish-speaking countries and Portugal; lately the spelling Seraphina has regained charm in the English-speaking world for its elegant, old-world sound.
