Origin and meaning of Saturnino

Saturnino comes from Latin Saturninus, an adjective from Saturnus, the Roman god of agriculture, sowing and the golden age — meaning 'dedicated to Saturn.' It is therefore a name with mythological roots, recalling the cycles of the earth and fertility. Borne by several early martyrs, among them Saint Saturninus of Toulouse, it is found in Italy, Spain and Portugal. Rare today and antique, solemn in tone, it survives chiefly through devotion to the saints who made it illustrious.
