Origin and meaning of Rossana
Rossana is the Italian form of Roxana, from Old Persian Raoxšna, 'bright, shining, dawn' — the name of the Bactrian princess who became the wife of Alexander the Great. The name thus blends exotic flair and light. Made popular too by the Roxane of Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac, it is common in Italy and, as Roxana and Roxanne, across much of the Western world. In Italy today it is a slightly retro yet always elegant classic, loved for its soft sound and luminous meaning.
