Origin and meaning of Primo
Primo comes from Latin primus, 'first, firstborn' — originally a Roman first name often given to the eldest child, and it still carries the sense of the firstborn and of pre-eminence. It is a plain, proud name with an old, working-class ring. Once fairly common in Italian families, especially for a first son, it has become rare today. It stays indelibly linked to the memory of the writer Primo Levi, and is virtually unknown abroad.
