Origin and meaning of Patrizia

Patrizia is the feminine of Patrizio, from the Latin patricius, 'patrician, of noble birth,' which in ancient Rome denoted the aristocratic families descended from the patres. The name conveys dignity and elegance. It is common in Italy and, as Patrizia, in Germany too, while the English- and Spanish-speaking world prefers Patricia. Much loved especially in the later twentieth century, it keeps a refined, genteel tone that still appeals.
