Origin and meaning of Ottaviano
Ottaviano comes from the Latin Octavianus, an adjective built on the family name Octavius and linked to octavus, 'eighth.' It won lasting fame as the name taken by Gaius Octavius after Julius Caesar adopted him — the Octavian who, having won the civil wars, became Augustus, Rome's first emperor. The name therefore has a powerful classical, imperial flavour. In Italy today it is rare and refined, chosen as a nod to Roman heritage, and almost unknown abroad.
