Origin and meaning of Nerina

Nerina comes from Greek and from the myth of the Nereids, the sea nymphs who were daughters of the god Nereus: it thus suggests a maiden of the waters, gentle and elusive as a wave. Made poetic by writers such as Torquato Tasso and Giacomo Leopardi, who used it for idealized female figures, it is a rare, literary name, almost exclusively Italian. It charms with its musicality and its romantic, marine aura.
