Origin and meaning of Maja

Maja is a variant of Maia, in Roman mythology the goddess of spring and fertility, whose name ties to the idea of 'mother, nurse' and to growth (the month of May is named after her). Hugely popular in Poland, Scandinavia and the German-speaking countries, where it ranks among the most loved girls' names, it is short, sunny and spring-like. Its open sound makes it soft and universal.
