Origin and meaning of Maeve
Maeve is the anglicised form of the Irish Medb, from Old Irish meaning 'she who intoxicates'. In Celtic mythology Medb was the powerful, strong-willed queen of Connacht, at the heart of the epic Táin cycle. The name evokes strength, charisma and independence. It is much loved in Ireland and increasingly popular in English-speaking countries, where it charms with its short but intense sound and its deep tie to Gaelic roots.
