Origin and meaning of Lucio

Lucio comes from the Latin Lucius, one of the oldest Roman first names, from the root lux, 'light': it was traditionally given to a child born at dawn, 'the one who is luminous.' A plain, classical name, it is found in Italy and the Hispanic world. In Italian culture the singer-songwriters Lucio Battisti and Lucio Dalla, among the most celebrated voices of twentieth-century music, made it beloved. Abroad it matches the form Lucius.
