Origin and meaning of Luciano

Luciano comes from the Latin Lucianus, a patronymic of Lucius, from the root lux, 'light': it means 'luminous, son of the light.' A name of ancient Roman and Christian tradition, it carries an idea of splendour and clarity. It is very common in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Latin America. It was made famous by the tenor Luciano Pavarotti, a voice loved worldwide, and in antiquity by the satirist Lucian of Samosata.
