Origin and meaning of Lodovico

Lodovico is a variant of Ludovico, the Italian form of the Germanic Hludwig, from hlud, 'glory, fame,' and wig, 'war, battle': hence 'glorious in battle, famous warrior.' It is the same name behind the French Louis and the German Ludwig. A name with a Renaissance flavour, it was borne by the poet Ludovico Ariosto, author of Orlando Furioso. Today the spelling Lodovico is rare and literary, almost only Italian.
