Origin and meaning of Lisa
Lisa is a short form of Elisabeth, from the Hebrew Elisheva, 'God is my oath' or 'God is fullness.' Short, sweet and recognisable in almost every language, it has become a hugely popular name in its own right. It is much loved in Italy, in English-speaking countries and across the Germanic and Scandinavian world. It lives alongside the variants Lise and Liza, and brings to mind Lisa Gherardini, the woman portrayed in the Mona Lisa.
