Origin and meaning of Lazzaro
Lazzaro comes from the Hebrew El'azar (Eleazar), 'God has helped, God is my aid', through the Greek and Latin Lazarus. It is tied to the Gospel account of Lazarus raised by Jesus, a symbol of rebirth and hope. In Italian it is an old and fairly rare men's name; in the variants Lázaro and Lazare it is more present in the Spanish-, Portuguese- and French-speaking worlds.
