Lapo is a typically Tuscan men's name, born in the Middle Ages as an affectionate short form of Jacopo, itself from the Hebrew Ya'aqov, 'supplanter'. It is very rare and almost entirely confined to Tuscany, where it keeps an aristocratic, retro charm; outside Italy it is completely unknown.
