Origin and meaning of Jude
Jude comes from the Hebrew Yehudah, 'praised', the same root as Judah. It's the name of the apostle Jude Thaddeus, patron saint of desperate causes, as well as Thomas Hardy's novel 'Jude the Obscure' and the Beatles' song 'Hey Jude'. It has climbed steadily in both SSA and ONS rankings in recent years, helped along by actor Jude Law's fame, and loved for its short, soft, literary-sounding charm.
