Origin and meaning of Jimena
Jimena is the feminine form of Jimeno/Ximeno, a medieval Iberian name of Basque or pre-Roman origin, traditionally interpreted as 'heard, the one God hears'. Much of its literary fame comes from Doña Jimena Díaz, the historical wife of El Cid Campeador, celebrated in the Cantar de Mio Cid. Today it has returned to favor across Spain and Latin America as an elegant name rooted in Castilian epic tradition.
