Origin and meaning of Ippolito
Ippolito comes from the Greek Hippólytos, from hippos, 'horse,' and lýein, 'to loosen': 'the one who frees or drives the horses.' In Greek tragedy he is the chaste son of Theseus, while in Christian history Saint Hippolytus of Rome, an early theologian, stands out. A learned name rich in classical echoes, today it is rare and mainly Italian; other languages have Hippolyte in France and Hipólito across the Iberian world.
