Origin and meaning of Igino
Igino descends from the Greek Hygínos, tied to the adjective hygiés, 'healthy,' and to Hygieia, goddess of health: it therefore means 'sound, vigorous, in good health.' A classical, auspicious name, it was borne by an early pope and by Hyginus the astronomer. Today it is very rare and almost exclusively Italian, felt as archaic and refined; in the Hispanic world it survives as Higinio.
