Origin and meaning of Giosuè
Giosuè is the Italian form of the Hebrew Yehoshua, 'the Lord is salvation', the same root that gives the name Jesus. In the Bible it is the leader who guided the people of Israel into the Promised Land. The name is ennobled by the poet Giosuè Carducci, the first Italian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Common mainly in Italy, it has international forms such as Joshua and Josué.
