Origin and meaning of Gioacchino
Gioacchino is the Italian form of the Hebrew Yehoyaqim, 'God raises up, the Lord makes firm'. By tradition it was the name of the Virgin Mary's father, venerated together with Saint Anne as Saint Joachim. The name shines above all thanks to the composer Gioachino Rossini, one of opera's supreme geniuses. Common in Italy, it has well-known international forms such as Spanish Joaquín and German Joachim.
