Origin and meaning of Giacinta

Giacinta is the feminine form of Giacinto, from the Greek Hyákinthos, the name of the purple flower born, in myth, from the blood of the youth Hyacinth loved by Apollo. It means 'hyacinth', with all the floral delicacy of the Greek myth. It is linked to Saint Jacinta Marto, the little visionary of Fatima canonised in 2017. Found in Italy, Spain and Portugal (as Jacinta), it has a gentle, old-world charm.
