Origin and meaning of Geremia
Geremia is the Italian form of the Hebrew Yirmeyahu, 'the Lord raises up' or 'God exalts'. It is the name of one of the great prophets of the Old Testament, author of the book that bears his name and of the Lamentations. Found mostly in Italy in religious and traditional families, it is now fairly rare; far more common are its international forms such as English Jeremiah or Jeremy and French Jérémie.
