Origin and meaning of Gennaro
Gennaro comes from the Latin Ianuarius, 'relating to Janus' and hence 'of the month of January', the month dedicated to two-faced Janus, keeper of gateways and beginnings. The name is bound forever to Saint Januarius, patron of Naples, whose cult made it dearly loved. It is indeed a men's name typical of southern Italy, especially Campania, where it remains very common and identity-defining.
