Origin and meaning of Gaspare
Gaspare goes back, through Greek and Latin, to a Persian root (gantzabara, 'treasurer, keeper of the treasure'). It is famous as the name of one of the three Magi who, by tradition, brought gifts to the infant Jesus. Common above all in Italy, it has widely used international forms such as Gaspar and Caspar. Among real bearers stands the composer Gaspare Spontini, a leading figure of early nineteenth-century opera.
