Origin and meaning of Franco
Franco has a double root: on one side the Germanic Frank, the people of the Franks (whence 'frank' as 'free'), on the other the Italian adjective 'frank, sincere, loyal'. It is often also a short form of Francesco. It thus embodies the values of freedom and openness. In Italy it is a traditional men's name, very common among 20th-century generations, and it appears in Spanish-speaking countries too.
