Origin and meaning of Fedele
Fedele comes from the Latin fidelis, 'faithful, loyal, trustworthy', from the root fides, 'faith, loyalty'. In Christian use the name expresses faithfulness to God and steadfastness in friendship. It was borne by Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen, a seventeenth-century Capuchin friar and martyr. Now rare and old-fashioned in flavour, it remains almost exclusively Italian, chosen for its clear moral meaning and solemn sound.
