Origin and meaning of Fabio

Fabio comes from the Latin Fabius, the name of the gens Fabia, traced to faba, 'bean': it originally referred, with a rustic tone, to 'bean growers'. It belonged to one of Rome's oldest and most illustrious families. Today Fabio is a very common, well-loved men's name in Italy, appreciated in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world too, liked for its brevity, musicality and classical flavour.
