Origin and meaning of Elia
Elia comes from the Hebrew ʾĒliyyāhū, 'my God is Yahweh'. It is the name of the great biblical prophet who challenged the priests of Baal and was taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire: a figure of zeal and spiritual power, venerated by Jews, Christians and Muslims. In Italy it is at once ancient and current; Elijah, Elias and Ilya make it international.
