Origin and meaning of Dino
Dino began as an affectionate short form of names ending in -dino, such as Bernardino, Rinaldino or Aldino, but has long stood on its own. Brief, plain and friendly, it has a distinctly Italian, twentieth-century flavour. It was made famous by the goalkeeper Dino Zoff, World Cup-winning captain in 1982, and the writer Dino Buzzati. Used almost only in Italy, it evokes simplicity and warmth.
