Origin and meaning of Dalila

Dalila comes from the Hebrew Delilah (דְּלִילָה), whose meaning is debated: perhaps 'languishing, delicate', or linked to the idea of seduction. The name is known for the biblical figure, companion of Samson, told in the Book of Judges. Soft and musical in sound, it is chosen fairly rarely though recognisably in Italy. Abroad it appears mostly as the English Delilah, newly fashionable in English-speaking countries.
