Origin and meaning of Barnaba
Barnaba comes from the Aramaic bar-nabà, traditionally read as 'son of consolation' or 'son of encouragement.' The name is bound inseparably to Saint Barnabas, the apostle and tireless companion of Paul on his first missionary journeys, regarded as the founder of the Church of Cyprus. Fairly rare in Italy, it has counterparts in the French Barnabé, Spanish Bernabé, and English Barnaby. It keeps a biblical, ancient tone, with a warm, reassuring sense of comfort.
