Azzurra

Origin and meaning of Azzurra

Azzurra is a modern Italian name taken straight from the adjective azzurra, 'light blue, like a clear sky.' The word reaches Italian, through the Persian lāžward, from the name of lapis lazuli, the deep-blue stone. The name evokes serenity, openness, and purity, with a bright, expansive image. Distinctly Italian and rarely used elsewhere, it has a fresh, original character, tied to Italy's symbolic colours and to an idea of limpid beauty.
