Origin and meaning of Asia

Asia has Greek roots in the mythological nymph Asìa, later extended to the whole eastern continent, tied to the idea of dawn and the land where the sun rises. In Italy it is a modern, rising name, chosen for its open, exotic sound and its sense of distant horizons; it stays rare elsewhere in Europe.
