Origin and meaning of Archie
Archie began as an affectionate short form of Archibald, from the Germanic ercan-bald, 'genuine and bold'. In the UK it long ago outgrew nickname status and became a standalone name, consistently near the top of the ONS rankings for boys. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son, born in 2019, gave it a further international boost. Parents love its warm, friendly sound, which works for a toddler yet ages gracefully into adulthood.
