Origin and meaning of Amina
Amina comes from the Arabic Āmina (آمنة), 'trustworthy, safe, faithful', from the root expressing security and calm. In the Islamic world it is remembered as the name of the Prophet Muhammad's mother. Very common across Muslim countries and much of Africa, the name was also borne by a celebrated warrior queen of African history. Variants such as Aminah and Emine carry it between the Arab world, Turkey and sub-Saharan Africa.
