Origin and meaning of Agnieszka
Agnieszka is the Polish form of Agnes, from Greek hagnḗ, 'pure, chaste'; by sound the name was long linked to Latin agnus, 'lamb', a symbol of innocence. Bound to the cult of Saint Agnes, the young Roman martyr, it is one of Poland's most typical and cherished girls' names. Outside Poland the forms Agnes, Agnese and Agnès are used.
