Origin and meaning of Achille

Achille comes from the Greek Achilleús, of uncertain origin, perhaps linked to 'grief of the people'. It is the name of the invincible demigod of the Iliad, the greatest Greek hero of the Trojan War, whose only weakness was his famous heel. Rare but epic in charm, in Italy it recalls classical nobility and strength; Achilles and Aquiles make it recognisable across the West.
