Origin and meaning of Yichen

Yichen is a modern Chinese name, used for both boys and girls, transcribed in pinyin from Han characters that parents choose with care. Depending on the characters, yi can suggest greatness, art or unity and chen evokes the stars, the heavens or an auspicious time (辰). Together they suggest breadth and celestial light. It is very fashionable in today's mainland China, yet almost absent in the Western world.
