Origin and meaning of Vasiliki

Vasiliki is the Greek feminine form of Basil, from the Greek basilikós, 'royal, fit for a king,' itself from basileús, 'king.' The name thus carries a sense of royalty and nobility. It is one of the most traditional and widespread girls' names in Greece and Cyprus, often affectionately shortened to Vasoúla or Vicky. Outside the Hellenic world it stays little known, firmly tied to its Greek identity.
