Origin and meaning of Retal

Retal (رتال), sometimes spelled Ritaal, echoes the root r-t-l, the same behind 'tartil', the art of slow, clear, melodious Quranic recitation recommended in the Quran itself. The name evokes a harmonious, measured voice capable of conveying beauty through rhythm and pace. A contemporary feminine name, relatively rare and little documented outside the Arabian Peninsula, it is valued especially in Saudi Arabia for its direct link to Quranic spirituality and its musical sound.
