Origin and meaning of Reem

Reem (ريم) refers in classical Arabic poetry to the white desert gazelle, the quintessential symbol of grace, agility and beauty of the eyes — gazelle eyes being a recurring metaphor for feminine beauty in Arabic literary tradition. The name is therefore a poetic compliment bestowed on the girl from birth. Widespread and timeless across the Arab world, from the Levant to the Gulf, it is still chosen today for its elegant brevity and the delicate image it evokes.
